Inspired by: Alice in Wonderland, Donatella Versace

Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is my favorite book and Johnny Depp, Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter all in one package is enough to make my day, so suffice it to say I’m a little biased, but Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite films of 2010.

At her Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear show, Donatella told everyone backstage that she was inspired by Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. She was able to convey it in her pieces without losing her “muchness” as Burton’s Mad Hatter would say. She kept her “Versaceness” intact with the sexy silhouettes, mini skirts, and lots of glamour. She said that “[She] loved the idea of that fantasyland” and that certainly comes through with the pastels and the prints and glitter of Donatella’s collection.

The costume design of this film was of course nominated for many awards thanks to the amazing work of Colleen Atwood. The whole aesthetics of the film is absolutely gorgeous (the art direction and visual effects are the other categories that got Oscar noms).

Here you can see the details of Donatella Versace’s clocks, rabbits, butterflies, and the deck of cards.

My favorite was this dress, I feel like I’m going down the rabbit hole looking at it, and after watching the movie again, notice how it resembles the tiles Alice lands on after falling down the rabbit hole:
